Constellation and Amazon announced on Sept. 30, 2026, a 20-year PPA for 690 MW from Calvert Cliffs in Lusby, Md., including about 190 MW of new uprate capacity expected online between 2030 and 2032, which Constellation says gives it the revenue certainty to relicense the plant for another 20 years.

PJM accepted three projects totaling more than 2,100 MW of nameplate capacity into its temporary Expedited Interconnection Track: two ENGIE battery projects in Pennsylvania and Ohio and a 455-MW gas uprate at Hunterstown that Utility Dive attributes to LS Power. All three are slated to come online in mid-2029.
PJM issued a Maximum Generation Alert for Oct. 13–14, 2026, called demand response and recalled maintenance outages. It said a DOE order for Oct. 13–16 authorized it to direct data centers to switch to backup generation, which it had not had to use, and it then issued a Capacity Advisory for Oct. 19.
PJM has filed an executed State Agreement Approach study agreement at FERC (Docket ER27-126). It covers SB Energy's proposed Flagship AI data center, generation and transmission project centered at DOE's former Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Pike County, Ohio.
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore's Sept. 23 executive order directs state agencies to weigh a new task force's alignment determination in permits, incentives and advocacy for data centers of 25 MW or more, bars agency NDAs with developers and creates a public dashboard updated at least monthly.
FERC on Oct. 9, 2026 accepted PJM's 50 MW Large Load definition and a Large Load Registry but rejected the IRAS curtailment service, BYONC rules and a VRR-curve exclusion, citing state jurisdiction and an insufficient just-and-reasonable showing.
FERC accepted but suspended PJM's one-time Reliability Backstop Procurement until Feb. 28, 2027, and opened a hearing on cost allocation. DOE has since urged PJM to make large loads, not households, pay. PJM plans a revised filing by Oct. 29.
